When was the last time you woke up feeling comfortable? Did you feel completely in control, with no worries or concerns about anything?
If the answer is yes, then I have a further question for you? How are you growing and developing yourself? If you are feeling comfortable, what is exciting you?
Having spoken to and coached many very successful people, I can tell you that none of them are comfortable. The reason for that is every day, they strive to become better, to learn more, to find the lessons in each day and in many cases, deliberately step outside that comfort zone so they stretch themselves.
Whatever their definition of success is or in whatever way they are currently progressing their life, they realise they need to know more, do more and be more. In a lot of cases, they are also willing to spend more to find the resources that will help them to grow, whether that be a coach, mentor books or seminars.
So if you are really feeling comfortable, then I urge to you to make yourself uncomfortable by trying , learning or doing something that you have never done before or something that you never thought you could ever do. When you are learning or trying something new you become uncomfortable but in that discomfort, there is also excitement.
So back to those who said they were not comfortable. What are you doing about it? If it is something within your control, then take the plunge and do that thing that will fix it. That may take you up another road of discomfort but hey, enjoy the challenge.
If you think it is out of your control, whose help can you ask for? Most challenges are difficult to fix on our own and sharing it with someone who can help, helps you and it helps them also. They grow by helping you to fix that issue.
Following the advice of my mentors, I always live uncomfortably and I am happy with that, as many successful people are. I’m happy with having a to do list that never ends, of having a book list that I never finish and, sometimes with a hefty kick up the backside required, putting myself into situations where I feel totally out of control.
That is where the excitement is; always striving to be better.
So I challenge you to do the same; get uncomfortable and into the excitement of life.
Have an exciting day,
– Mark Tanner.
